Resistance to Alexander in India.


Alexander, when he invaded India, encountered severe resistance the like of which he had not encountered elsewhere. Indian kingdoms also kept mercenaries as soldiers who fought the Greeks with great fervour. In one citadel, he obtained their surrender after severe fighting. After the mercenaries surrendered, he let them go, then attacked them and killed them. The people he called the philosophers of India or holy men castigated the Indian kings who surrendered to Alexander and opposed his invasion. Many were slaughtered during his invasion.
