Rajaraja the Great

Rajaraja has gone down in history as one of India’s greatest-ever emperors and also the greatest of the Chola emperors. He ruled from 985 AD to 1014 AD, at a time when Mahmud Ghazni was ravaging parts of North and North West India. His empire extended from Northern Sri Lanka to Godavari Krishna basin, Konkan, Malabar, Maldives and Lakshadweep. He was a great administrator and a temple builder to whom goes the credit for extending an Indian empire into the territories of the Indian Ocean, indicating a great naval prowess.
