Lalitaditya Muktapida

Lalitaditya Muktapida has been a legendary King from Kashmir whose rule lasted from 700 AD to 736 AD. He can claim to be a Universal monarch as he travelled around India, defeating kings and creating a pan-India empire. Not only that but he also carried Indian arms abroad like the Cholas did later.

He was from the Karkota dynasty. He defeated Yashodharman the King of Kannauj and also invaded Gauda kingdom. He conquered Central India and went to Dakshinapatha and defeated a mighty queen there. He invaded Avanti and Dwarika. He is said to have defeated decisively the invading armies of the Umayyad Caliphate. He conquered regions beyond North West India including Kamboja and Central Asia. The Turushkas are said to have fled in fear of him. His empire extended from Central Asia across North India to East, central, south and West India. He is mentioned in Chinese Tang Empire court accounts. He build the famous Martand Sun Temple and was the most powerful emperor in India in the first half of the eighth century.
