Arab conquest of Persia:
The Arab Muslim conquest of Persia ( Iran ) happened under Caliph Umar. Persia was then ruled by Sassanids who had Zoroastrianism as their religion. They had been involved in extensive conflicts to their West with the Byzantine empire. This continuous conflict made them very weak. The Arab armies and the Persians fought a series of battles between 633 AD and 654 AD. The Persians fought fiercely to safeguard themselves but by then had become militarily very weak and divided. Persia was conquered by the Arabs by 654 AD. This brought the Arab Islamic armies into what was then called the frontier of Al-Hind and the kings and armies that lay beyond to their east were considered Indian
